As full time RV'ers we're given the opportunity to see and do some wonderful things. But, not every day can be spent hiking, biking and lazing the day away. We also have to do all the ordinary things that everyone has to do - groceries, cleaning and laundry (ugh), that's just part of life. There are also some things that have a much larger importance for us than people who live in brick and mortar homes - our truck for example. It's our primary, and only, way to get from A to B and it's our garage and storage. So this post is about some of the more mundane things we spend our time doing and how it's different from what many of you do.
Rather than drive across town or pick up the phone, one way RV'ers stay in touch with fellow RV'ers is through their blogs. We see where folks are and how they're doing. We recently met a wonderful couple, Leigh and Brian, and their senior dog Curtis. Their blog, Aluminarium, is a daily dose of how they've spent their FIVE years living and working on the road. We had a great time with them at Lake Mead and look forward to when our paths cross again.
We returned to Cottonwood, AZ to have Thanksgiving with friends. It was wonderful seeing everyone and the girls had a great surprise birthday get together for me at the Tavern Grille. Thanks Deb, Becky, Heather, Deb, and Mary Helen!! It has been difficult for me to return to the city where we used to live and be a "tourist". There have been several times that had I been driving I would have turned toward our old house rather than the campground. That would be an oops moment. Also while we were here we were guests of our wonderful friends Marilyn and her daughter Tammy at The Blazin' M Ranch dinner and Christmas show. Great company and live entertainment, love you Mar!
When it was time to move on we were in the process of hooking up to head down to Phoenix when Jim got a CHECK TIRE PRESSURE warning on the truck and lo and behold a flat rear tire. We're boondocking, which means out in the boonies, but with our Ford Roadside Service, we had a repair guy there within 20 minutes. You have no idea what a security blanket this is for us since we depend so much on the truck. Repair completed and tire patched, ready to go. We also have a repair service called Coach Net for the RV and know that some day we will have to use it.
Laundry is another of our chores that is no doubt different from what most of you do. Going to a laundromat is without a doubt one of the best places to do people watching and I would highly recommend it, just once. You get to see an interesting cross section of folks and clean clothes to boot. Normally, I drop Jim at the laundry then I do the grocery shopping, come back and help fold. It is an efficient use of time and lets us get back to our hiking, biking and lazing around.
There's not much news really, but over the next several weeks we'll be traveling about 2000 miles to see Jim's sister, Julie, and her family. Later this week we'll be heading south to Tucson, then east through New Mexico and Texas to Louisiana. Good posts and new places coming your way!
