Unfortunately when we got there we were told that the buffalo, technically they're bison, are being rounded up for vaccinations and health checks but there were still a few out and about. We also saw a bull elk and plenty of pronghorn.
Bison facts:
- The only true buffalo are the Cape Buffalo of Africa and Water Buffalo of Asia. The American Bison has been called "buffalo" for so long that the name is used interchangeably in the US.
- Bison bulls can weigh 2000 lbs and are especially ill tempered during breeding season from mid-July to August.
- Females are about half the size of the bulls and calves are born a bright rust red color during mid-April though May
Bird of the day - Red-Breasted Nuthatch. Seen while eating our lunch in a pine shaded picnic area.
We had dinner with friends Amy and Gary last night at Hops Restaurant in Kalispell. It was excellent. And if it has been awhile since you had your last Yakburger... Hops is your place. Also, the Tomato bisque was the BEST I have ever had.
